Taking care of the home is primarily everyone's responsibilities. There are roles that everybody in the home can partake in to maintain a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
Below are few tips that every homeowners can take to care for their homes and possessions:
Kitchen
- Don't ever go to bed with a dirty kitchen. Even if you can't get to cleaning the dishes right after meal, make sure the kitchen is clean before bedtime.
- Clean the sink after dishes. When the sink is clear, wipe it down with soap and a towel to sanitize it. Then rinse with water.
- Spray kitchen cleaners on all the stove tops and cabinets and wipe them clean.
- Sweep the floors and take out the trash. Make a habit to empty the trash can on a daily basis and spray with disinfectant to keep germs away.
- Find a place for everything. From the ingredients to utensils and appliances. Everything in the kitchen has a special place where it can go when it's not in use. It will be easier to find them later.
Living room
The cleanliness of your living room has a lot to say about your housekeeping habits. Because it is often visited by many- from acquitances to friends and family. A clean space creates an impression on the minds of those who came to visit.
How do you care for your living room?
- Declutter the space. Use a laundry basket or container to gather up all the stuffs that are not suppose to be there and keep in a closet to sort later.
- Wash or dryclean cushion covers and throw rugs. Throw rugs should be cleaned once every two weeks and leave to air dry.
- Dust and wipe down all surfaces including curtains, blinds, light fittings, ceiling fans, air conditioning vents.
- Vacuum or sweep the floor including under the furniture. If you have wooden or tile floors, mop them with microfiber mop. Shake out any rugs where possible.
- To clean white furniture, wipe down with soap and damp microfiber cloth. Blot any stains with baby wipes. Same cloth can be used to clean television screen and other electronics.
- Use all purpose spray and microfiber cloth to wipe your windows and sills. Wash your curtains and dry them.
- Declutter the bedroom by removing things that don't belong there.
- Put away all clothes, books and belongings.
- Clean the ceiling fan for dust.
- Strip your bed and wash the linens and sheets.
- Vacuum the floor and take time under all furniture.
- Arrange and dust the night stands.
- Remake the bed with new sheets.
